[Revolutionary War Record Pension Files for
Service, Virginia., Number W 9521, shows:
John Tinney enlisted for the term of
three years or during the War in Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania in the year or 1776 or 1777;
that he continued to serve until the close
of the War in 1783, when he was discharged
in Pittsburgh, in the State of
Pennsylvania. At the time of the
marriage in 1789, according to the testimony of
Jane Evans, she lived with an Uncle
of hers by the name of Evans, who was
a man considerably older than herself, who
went with them, to the Magistrate,
some distance. There was but few
present at her marriage and the[y] mostly
strangers to her and there being no family
record of marriage (it having been lost or
destroyed) and her certificate of marriage
being also lost or destroyed. The
other
correspondence states
that the soldier married soon after the close of the
Revolution
in Westmoreland
County, Pennsylvania. Westmoreland is the county east
of Allegheny County,
Pennsylvania, in which latter county is the city of
Pittsburgh. Thus, this
record indicates the area of residence for John Tinney's
wife, the widow
Jane McClary, was somewhere in
Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania,
within the home of a much
older Uncle Evans. Revolutionary War Records
indicate
that John Tinney
resided in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania until circa 1801,
when he is
listed as being a resident
of West Liberty, Ohio County, now [West] Virginia, USA.
They
came to Kentucky from there
in A.D. 1808, where John Tinney followed the trade of
blacksmith for a number of
years in Kentontown, Harrison County, Kentucky.
From thence they moved to
Nicholas County, Kentucky, where the future son-in-law,
Benjamin Gaunce,
first became acquainted with the family and where the said
John Tinney died.
Benjamin Gaunce testified that he had charge of the said
Jane Tinney ever since the death of the
said John Tinney, with the exception
of a few months
until her death.]

"My glass is run", meaning

extended an "n" in run, to
an "m". A different meaning, to:
"My glass is rum".

Tinney, (Mrs.) ----------,
from A History of Morwenstowe after the Restoration,
[England], written A.D. 1930, by the Rev. F.
C. Hamlyn, Vicar of Morwenstowe,
pages 168-170, under Cleave.
The whole manor, originally belonging to the Priory of
Launceston, was annexed by the Duchy of
Cornwall in A.D. 1540.
"At the beginning of the nineteenth
century a new name appears altogether, and the old
family has gone, and other farms are joined
with it, making one large farmstead.
Mrs. Tinney is noted in the
assessment of A.D. 1818 as paying rates for Cleave,
Holligrove, Furzepark, Ovis and Close."
The annual rent of the whole was 64 pound.
In 1843, there was another distribution of
the property, when Ovis again became a separate
holding, and Richard Harris* (Mentioned
in Byles'Life of Hawker) lived
at Cleave,
farming Cleave (200 acres), Coombe (57
acres), Furze Park (49 acres), of which the gross
estimated rental was 283 pound.
