                  Ammon M. Tenney was born Nov. 16, 1844 in Lee County, Iowa. He moved to Utah in 1848,
                  and then traveled on to California with his father who was called to San Bernardino. There
                  Ammon learned Spanish. He was ordained an elder by Brigham Young. As an interpreter, he
                  accompanied Jacob Hamblin and Major Wesley Powell into Arizona. In 1879 he was instrumental
                  in purchasing land in St. Johns, Apache County, Arizona, for Mormon colonization. He died in
                  Safford, Arizona on Oct. 28, 1925.
