The Church has established two special times for families to be together.
The first is centered around the proper observance of the Sabbath day.
This is the time we are to attend our regular meetings together, study the life
and teachings of the Savior and of the prophets. “Other appropriate Sunday
activities include: (1) writing personal and family journals, (2) holding family councils,
(3) establishing & maintaining family organizations for the immediate and extended family,
(4) personal interviews between parents & children, (5) writing to relatives and missionaries,
(6) genealogy, (7) visiting relatives & those who are ill or lonely, (8) missionary work,
(9) reading stories to children, & (10) singing Church hymns.”

"Yet I will own them, and they shall be mine in that day
when I shall come to make up my jewels." -
D&C 101
The Family: A Proclamation to the World

The Importance of the Family

After this vision had closed, another great and glorious vision burst upon us;
for Elijah the prophet, who was taken to heaven without tasting death, stood before us,
and said: "Behold, the time has fully come, which was spoken of by the mouth of Malachi
-- testifying that he [Elijah] should be sent, before the great and dreadful day of the Lord
come -- to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the children to the fathers,
lest the whole earth be smitten with a curse -- Therefore, the keys of this dispensation
are committed into your hands; and by this ye may know that the great and dreadful
day of the Lord is near, even at the doors."
Doctrine and Covenants 110:13-16

And again, I say unto you, I remember my servant
Oliver Granger;
behold, verily I say unto him that his name shall be had in sacred
remembrance from generation to generation, forever and ever, saith
the Lord. Therefore, let him contend earnestly for the redemption of
the First Presidency of my Church, saith the Lord; and when he falls
he shall rise again, for his sacrifice shall be more sacred unto me than
his increase, saith the Lord. Therefore, let him come up hither speedily,
unto the land of Zion; and in the due time he shall be made a merchant
unto my name, saith the Lord, for the benefit of my people. Therefore
let no man despise my servant Oliver Granger, but let the blessings
of my people be on him forever and ever.

into the highways and roads, and the generic cities of North America.]
